Fresh, juicy strawberries dipped in rich, indulgent chocolate. Can you think of anything more delicious? Making your chocolate covered strawberries at home is so much cheaper than buying them. I know it might seem overwhelming at first, but these fancy and impressive-looking desserts are actually quite simple to make once you know how. We are sharing everything we've learned on how to make perfect chocolate covered strawberries every time so you can too!
Start by thoroughly washing your strawberries. Gently pat them dry, then let them air dry for 15-30 minutes. Make sure the strawberries are completely dry and no water remains on the strawberries. Let them get to room temperature by sitting out for 1 hour.
Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and set out any toppings you plan on using. Make sure your toppings are in small pieces.
Melt your chocolate. Make sure to use high quality chocolate. Check out our tutorial on melting and tempering chocolate for step-by-step instructions and tips.
Hold your strawberry by its stem and dip and twirl in the melted chocolate. Cover the strawberry with chocolate up until right under the stem. Try not to get any chocolate on the leaves.
Lift the strawberry out of the chocolate and twist slightly to allow the excess chocolate to drip off and fall back into the bowl.
Gently scrape the bottom of the strawberry against the edge of the chocolate bowl to prevent chocolate from pooling. You should not be able to see the strawberry beneath the chocolate. Carefully set the chocolate-covered strawberry on the parchment-lined sheet pan.
Once all your strawberries are dipped, chill for 15 minutes in the refrigerator until chocolate hardens and sets. They are ready to enjoy or decorate now.
DECORATING
Fill a piping bag or a resealable plastic bag with melted chocolate and cut of the tip or use a spoon. Hold your strawberries by the stem with one finger underneath for support and drizzle the chocolate on with quick side to side to side hand motions.
Add your toppings immediately after dipping or drizzling the strawberries. Either dip the strawberries into the toppings or use a small spoon to sprinkle them on.
